Uninvited Guests

Dear Spymaster,

Did you know that Lady Gralhund wants to be a Lord of Waterdeep and wear a mask? And that there have been Nimblewrights around her place for months? Seems strange to me. Where’d they all come from?

Istrid stayed for a month. Some of my friend said she was rude, but she just seemed scared to me. She says it’s safe now and gave me lots of shiny metal. She can come stay any time.

The Big Guy’s people are worried about a black snake running around and stealing from the rich folk. Catbard and I go with him to talk to a reporter named Rudderbust. He told us all about a lady a hundred years ago robbing and killing people. Cassalanter he says, back then, and now an evil twin of the current lady. He also says they worship demons. Orange went to look at records and found the old snake stole from everyone, even the Cassalanters. She has no sister, just young kids. They had economic troubles, but 15 years ago, things go better. I went to watch the house, just to see if anyone leaves in the middle of the night, but just dinner guests leave.

Mert asked Page to go help a friend, Yssa Solsa. She has trapped a monster in her shop and needs help. Candlekeep, Big Guy, and I go with her. Turns out to be a Gazer like we’ve been dealing with in the sewers. We blocked off her sewer entrance and Page is gonna go yell at people for her. She gave us some cool books for our library.

Also, apparently bags of holding can have worms. Have you ever heard of that? They’re building a society in our bag. Weird!

Thieves, Assassins, and Sewers

Journal Notes – gather details to send to Spymaster.

Barnabas Blastwind and Sayeth Cromley invite Orange and Marymouse to go on the raid of Gralhund. Red says the rest of us should guard the sewer. Quiet and damp and boring down there. Until Candlekeep hears something and we chase after a man. I fell down. Page apologized – her magic put me to sleep. Candlekeep woke me up, but the sneaky guy got away.

Ystel Flackson – Luskan, broad and square man, short dark hair and a big sword.

Reports go out. Info comes in.

The Gralhunds say he and other Zhents were holding them hostage for months. The nimblewright took her necklace – family heirloom.

Spymaster – Very dangerous. Be careful. Don’t engage. Report.

Gotta convince the others to leave him be. Luskans – the beheader is Luskan, too. There’s a carnival ship in the harbor with Luskan tech and Nimblewrights – Captain Zardas Zord.

The carnival is quite fun. Lots of flyers to copy. Leaving soon, Page should come before they go. Lots of acts here for the Cabaret.

Guard hunting Zhents, Spymaster says stay low for now. New contact soon, keep training, keep watching.

Blue Alley Mostly Isn’t

Journal Scrawlings on a slightly burnt and bloody page

Catbard’s Mert is still after the beheader from the docks. Oh no, she wants to go looking for him. In a magical alley! That people don’t come back from. The Big Guy says it’s full of magic and monsters and an evil mage. Why is my new flock so bent on finding the guy? Job’s done. At least she’s letting us go back to sleep until morning.

Blue cobblestones – source unknown.

Not an alley. Hallway. No way back out. Green light ahead.

Double doors – Gallery of people dying in portraits. Dart traps.

Another hall – more pressure plates.

Double doors – Blade trap.

Library – Tables trapped with gas.

Broken door stops it.

Trapped door into the kitchen. Dead things in the dining room.

The entire parlor is a trap.

So is the kitchen – whirlwind of cutlery and flatware and pots and pans.

The library is lovely though. Found a Dwarven Dictionary.

Gaming parlor – must play or get burned.

Coat room – pit trap.

Downstairs ball room – extravagant dancing blade trap. Stage has sandbag and mirror traps.

Loads of treasure. No beheader. Orange stole a gaming table.

Death, Drugs, and Droids

Spymaster,

There was more to that explosion than we thought. One of the dead guys worked for Lord Neverember and had the Stone with him when he died. He had heard of us and was trying to come ask for our help. He claimed he took it from Xanathar himself, but Red doesn’t believe him.

A bunch of the group went off to the House of Gond after that. Orange says a robot named Nim made another robot and this robot could have been the one that threw the fireball. Nim said the other one ran away, but he made a detector to find him. Orange says they found the house where Nim’s creation is hiding, and maybe the guy who stole the Stone from Dalakar. (That’s the dead guy.)

It’s the Villa of Gralhund, and Red says they’re Zhent sympathizers. Red says we have to sneak in and see if the stone is still there. He wants to give it back to Xanathar.

Oh, and if you hear about an angry apothecary, don’t worry. Red says he deserved it.

Celebrations and Explosions

Spy Master,

Celebration Day was really fun. So many fun things to see and do. PageCat and I found new acts for the Cabaret!

Somebody blew people up outside our house! 11 people got blown up: an old woman, two men with swords – at least one of them with a Zhent tattoo, two women, a male half-elf, a dirty male gnome, and four halflings – two women and two men.

Candlekeep found a woman who said there was a puppet on a rooftop across the street when it happened. When the guard and inspector question us, they say that the dirty gnome was heading for the Cabaret.

Red said a kid saw a guy chasing the dirty gnome, and then stealing something from him before limping away very quickly. He thinks he was a Zhent, like the men with swords. Mary admits he took gems from the dead gnome, and Red takes them to see if he can find out who he was.

He also found a necklace of fireballs that was dropped by the puppet, I guess. The Big Guy says they sound like the puppets created by the Inspired Hands at the House of Gond for the Creation Parade. He and some of the others are going to go check it out.

This city is really strange. I’ve never seen puppets blow people up before.
